LONDON, February 24 (RIA Novosti, Alexander Smotrov) - Russian embattled oil company Yukos is planning to protest a decision to launch an investigation into activities of its Luxemburg-based subsidiary, the Yukos office in London said Friday.

Russian officials requested that Luxemburg authorities investigate the activities of Yukos Capital S.a.r.l, registered in Luxembourg in 2003.

"Yukos Capital S.a.r.l, a Luxemburg-based Yukos subsidiary is fully cooperating with authorities in line with the law," a Yukos representative said. "However, the Yukos Group expresses protest against the decision, questions its goals and has already filed an appeal to Luxemburg courts with request to annul the decision."

Meanwhile, Latvian TV channel LNT announced Friday that the country had refused to grant political asylum to former Yukos vice-president Mikhail Yelfimov, who fled Russia and has an arrest warrant against him issued by a Moscow city court.
