MOSCOW, March 4 (RIA Novosti) - Khaled Meshaal, the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian radical resistance movement Hamas that won parliamentary elections in January, voiced his movement's readiness to ensure equal rights to representatives of all faiths in the Palestinian National Authority, a Russian senator said Saturday.
Mikhail Margelov, the head of the international affairs committee of the parliament's upper house, said after a meeting with Meshaal that the Hamas delegation, however, had not spoken of adopting any specific legislative acts.
"As the rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on the Middle East, I raised the issue of developing and adopting a bill that would ensure equal rights to all believers in the territory of the Palestinian Authority," Margelov said. "I have not received a clear answer yet."
Margelov said it was pleasant that Hamas was aware of its responsibility to the Palestinian people and the whole international community for peace in the Middle East.
