MOSCOW, March 5 (RIA Novosti) - The Middle East dialog has no alternative, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church said Sunday at a meeting with a delegation of the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
"We are convinced that there is no alternative to dialog. It is necessary to continue the peacemaking dialog, paying no attention to separate politicians," Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II told the Palestinian delegation headed by Hamas' political leader Khaled Meshaal.
"We have always spoken in support of the UN's decision giving both states [Israel and Palestine] the possibility to exist in the Middle East," Alexy II said.
According to him, the Russian Orthodox Church has always supported the Palestinians' right to establish their own state.
The delegation of the Hamas militant group, which won parliamentary elections last month, is in Moscow on the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
