MOSCOW, March 6 (RIA Novosti) - President Vladimir Putin ordered Monday that Moscow's Ostankino television center be put on the list of national strategic enterprises, the Kremlin press service said.
The television complex includes the 540-meter-high Ostankino tower, Europe's tallest, and is Russia's main television-transmitting facility, providing broadcasting via satellite and cable channels to Russia and abroad.
The register of strategic enterprises and joint stock companies has been in force since August 2004. Under the document, the state should maintain the controlling share of these enterprises and foreigners' ownership rights are restricted.
The center was seriously damaged in August 2000, when a devastating fire killed three and led to a blackout of federal television stations for several days.
