KAZAN/MOSCOW, March 10 (RIA Novosti) - One woman was slightly injured after the roof of a market collapsed in Kazan, the capital of the Volga republic of Tatarstan, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said Friday.
The statement contradicts the report from the Moscow-based Ekho Moskvy radio station that one person had been killed in the accident.
"A woman received a minor injury to the leg, and has been hospitalized," the ministry said.
The republic's Emergency Situations Ministry said that the roof had collapsed due to the weight of the snow covering it.
The market in the Kirov region of the city covers an area of 250 square meters. The roof collapsed over an area of 100 sq. m.
The accident came just over two weeks after 66 people lost their lives in Moscow when the roof of an enclosed market caved in, and only a day after a market in northern Russian was evacuated amid similar fears.
