MOSCOW, March 16 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian industry and energy minister said Thursday that mankind would still be using traditional sources of energy in the first half of the 21st century, but that this would not harm the environment.
"Traditional energy sources will be dominant in the first half of the 21st century," Viktor Khristenko said. "We cannot do without hydrocarbons."
He added that the use of hydrocarbons did not pose a threat to the environment.
"One of the main aims of energy security is the provision not only of resources capacity [access to resources], but also environmental compatibility in the use of these resources," the minister said.
Khristenko said the environmentally safe energy sources today were hydro and nuclear power sources.
