LONDON, March 22 (RIA Novosti) - Russia needs to take action to bring its corporate governance culture up to global standards, a deputy prime minister said Wednesday.
"Russia is not a perfect example from the view of corporate culture, and since in our current state we cannot achieve [this culture] we need to orient towards international standards," Alexander Zhukov said at a round table on corporate governance in London.
A corporate governance culture is one of the most important factors in a national economy, Zhukov said, and Russia has achieved definite success in the sphere.
"We are learning [corporate standards] relatively quickly, although it has been only 15 years since we started building a market economy," he said.
Zhukov added that the main obstacles to improving corporate governance remain "not within [the realm of] high politics, but within the business community."
