MAKHACHKALA, March 22 (RIA Novosti) -- A district head in the troubled North Caucasus republic of Daghestan died in a hospital Wednesday after being wounded earlier in the day in an attack on his car, a hospital source said.
Ruslan Aliyev, the head of the Botlikh district in western Daghestan, had been hospitalized with gun-wounds to his legs and lungs after his car came under fire in the center of the republic's capital, Makhachkala.
In all, nine people were wounded in the attack, including Aliyev's bodyguards and local law enforcers.
Aliyev was returning from a meeting on the problems of taxation and other issues attended by the republic's president, the heads of other districts and senior officials.
Police said soon after the attack that they had already identified four assailants and were searching for a silver Opel car that the assailants drove off in.
