MOSCOW, March 23 (RIA Novosti) - The heads of Russian energy giant Gazprom and Hungarian oil and gas company MOL discussed energy cooperation Thursday, the Russian company said.

Gazprom Chairman Alexei Miller and Zsolt Hernadi, general director of MOL, focused on the current state of gas supplies and the transit of Russian gas through Hungary, as well as prospects for developing gas transportation capacities and the Hungarian storage system.

The parties agreed that enhancing their long-term partnership was crucial to securing uninterrupted supplies and transit to Europe.

Russia accounts for 80% of Hungarian gas imports. In 2005, Gazprom supplied the country with 9 billion cubic meters of gas.

Established in 1991 on the basis of national oil and gas trust OKGT, MOL specializes in the prospecting, production, transportation, storage and sale of crude and gas and operates more than 440 gas stations in Hungary, Slovakia and Romania.
