VOLGOGRAD, April 14 (RIA Novosti) - Police in the Volga area said Friday they had detained three suspects in a recent attack on a gypsy camp.
A group of about ten young men armed with wooden sticks and iron bars attacked the camp in the Volgograd Region Thursday night, killing a gypsy man and a Russian woman. A girl and an elderly woman were hospitalized with injuries.
The detainees, aged 17-20, said they had been intoxicated during the attack.
Two other suspects have been released.
"According to preliminary information, the teenagers detained on suspicion of the double killing in the Volgograd Region have no links with Nazi or extremist organizations," a police spokesman said.
Local prosecutors said they had launched a criminal case.
