NATO Supreme Allied Commander in Europe General James Jones will arrive in the Russian capital Wednesday for a four-day visit to discuss Russia-NATO relations during a round of meetings with top Russian military officials, including Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov and Chief of the General Staff Yury Baluyevsky.
"They will also discuss a wide range of international issues, including the situation in Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan," the source said.
The focus of Russia's relationship with NATO has in recent years centered on the war on terrorism, responding to emergency situations, nonproliferation, peacekeeping, and military exchanges.
Russia joined the NATO-led Active Endeavor counter-terrorism operation in the Mediterranean following a joint naval training exercise in February. The two sides will also hold a joint air defense exercise later this year.
