* Vladimir Vasin, a vice president of Russia's Olympic Committee, said biathlete Olga Pyleva, who was stripped of her silver medal at the Turin Olympics and banned for two years after testing positive for doping, was planning her comeback to compete at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.

* At the 2005/2006 men's under-18 world ice hockey championships in Sweden (through April 22):

- Russia failed to advance to the semifinals after losing 1:4to Canada in the quarterfinals.

Quarterfinals results:

Russia - Canada 1:4 (1:0, 0:1, 0:3)

Sweden - Czech Republic - 0:3 (0-2, 2-0, 0-0)

The U.S. and Finland advanced to the semifinals automatically as the winners of the group stage

* At the Russian Cup 2005/2006 basketball Final Four tournament in Khimki, Moscow Region:

- Russian champions CSKA Moscow advanced to the finals by defeating UNICS Kazan, 77:63

- Khimki edged past Dinamo Moscow Region, 81:80, to advance to the finals.

The bronze-medal match and finals are set for April 21.

* The winner of the women's basketball regular season, VBM SGAU Samara, advanced to the finals of the SuperLeague championship by defeating Spartak Moscow Region (4), 90:72, in the away second leg of the best-of-three semifinal series.

Dinamo Moscow (3) beat UGMK Yekaterinburg (2) at home, 79:70, in the second leg of the other semifinal.

Second-leg results and series' standings:

Spartak Moscow Region (4) - VBM SGAU Samara (1) - 72:90 (Samara wins the series 2-0)

Dinamo Moscow (3) - UGMK Yekaterinburg (2) - 79:70 (Series tied 1-1)
