MOSCOW, April 27 (RIA Novosti) - Chery Automobile Co. Ltd, a Chinese state-controlled company, started manufacturing its first batch of automobiles at a plant in Russia Thursday.
A presentation of the new automobiles was held at the Chinese Embassy in Moscow and Ambassador to Russia Liu Guchang said that the inauguration of the plant in Russia's exclave in the EU, the Kaliningrad Region, marked a breakthrough in bilateral automotive cooperation.
"It will bring real profits to both countries," Guchang said, adding that Russian companies were welcome on the Chinese market too.
The company, China's eight biggest car-maker and leading vehicle exporter, plans to sell at least 10,000 cars made at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad every year in Russia.
Russian consumers will be offered sedans and cross-country vehicles.
An embassy spokesman said that bilateral cooperation in the automobile industry had a long history. In the 1950s, the USSR provided considerable help to China's burgeoning car-making industry.
