* At the 2006 European wrestling championship in Greco-Roman, female and freestyle in Moscow (through April 30)

- Varteres Samurgashev won the gold in the 74kg Greco-Roman category by defeating Aleh Mikhalovitch of Belarus in the final. Manuchar Kvirvelia of Georgia and Turkey's Mahmut Altay took bronze medals

- Vyacheslav Dzhaste beat Istvan Majoros of Hungary in a bronze-medal bout of the 60kg Greco-Roman. Karen Mnatsakanyan of Armenia won the gold, beating David Bedinadze of Georgia in the final

* At the 2006 World Team Table Tennis Championships in Bremen, Germany (through May 1):

- The Russian men's team advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Slovakia 3:2 and Greece 3:2 in the fourth and fifth rounds of Division 1 preliminary Group D.

* At the $950,000 Open Seat 2006 tennis tournament in Barcelona, Spain

- Russia lost its last representative at the tournament after Yevgeny Korolyov lost to Ivo Karlovic of Croatia 7:6, 6:7, 6:7 in the third round

* Russian basketball champions CSKA Moscow will face Spain's FC Barcelona April 28 in the semifinals of the Euroleague 2006 Final Four tournament in Prague (April 28-30). Defending champions Maccabi Tel Aviv will play Tau Ceramica, Spain, in the other semifinals of Europe's top club tournament

* The 2006 European rafting championships, involving Europe's 200 top performers, starts in Adygea in southern Russia. The competition will run on the Belay River in Caucasus Mountains through April 30
