DUSHANBE, May 2 (RIA Novosti, Lidia Isamova) - A mudflow in Tajikistan caused by heavy rain has left 13,000 people in the southeastern city of Rogun without water, emergency services said Tuesday.

According to the Tajik Emergency Situations Ministry, the mudslide damaged 100 meters of a water supply pipeline in a Rogun suburb Monday.

Emergency services in the Central Asian republic, which have had to tackle floods, mudflows and avalanches in the first five months of this year, are working to connect water supplies from other places.

The elements have claimed at least 23 lives since the start of the year and an estimated $2.1 million in damage has been caused.
