MOSCOW, May 2 (RIA Novosti) - President Vladimir Putin Tuesday relieved Igor Savolsky of his duties as chief negotiator on military affairs with Georgia, and replaced him with Valery Kanyaikin.
Kanyaikin, a Foreign Ministry ambassador at large, takes over as head of the Russian delegation negotiating with Georgia on withdrawal of Russian bases from the country, and also as chairman of a state commission on drafting a Russian-Georgian friendship treaty.
The presidential press service said Savolsky had been relieved of his duties in connection with another appointment.
