MOSCOW, May 2 (RIA Novosti) - U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney will travel to Kazakhstan on an official visit May 5-6, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

During his visit to the energy-rich Central Asian republic, Cheney will hold talks with officials on international and regional stability and security, energy cooperation, counter-terrorism measures, trade and economic cooperation, and democratic development.

Ministry spokesman Yerzhan Ashikbayev said, "The last time representatives of the U.S. administration at this level visited our country was in 1993."

Then vice president Al Gore visited Kazakhstan in 1993 to sign a treaty with President Nursultan Nazarbayev on U.S. assistance to destroy the Central Asian republic's stockpile of Soviet-era nuclear weapons.
