MOSCOW, May 24 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's coal production in January-April 2006 climbed 7.07% year-on-year to 105.89 million metric tons, the Industry and Energy Ministry said Wednesday.
Production in April grew 11.2% year-on-year to 26.12 mln tons.
Sixty-seven percent of Russia's coal was produced in the Kuznetsk basin in Siberia's Kemerovo Region, and in the Kansko-Achinsk basin in the neighboring Krasnoyarsk Territory. The two basins, among the world's largest, expanded production by 3.8% and 15.8% respectively year-on-year during the period.
Russia's coal exports in January-April grew 2.6% to 262.9 mln tons.
