MOSCOW, May 27 (RIA Novosti) - Vladimir Putin has sent a telegram to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono conveying his condolences over the tragic consequences of a powerful earthquake that hit the country, the presidential press service said Saturday.
A strong earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Java, leaving more than 2,500 people dead and thousands more injured, government officials said.
"Please convey our deep condolences to the families of those who have died and our sympathy to those who have been injured. I reaffirm our solidarity and readiness to provide assistance in overcoming the consequences of this natural catastrophe," Putin said.
