MOSCOW, June 22 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Foreign Ministry said Thursday it welcomed a meeting of the Israeli and Palestinian leaders and hoped it would open new opportunities for the Middle East peace process.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and PNA head Mahmoud Abbas held an informal meeting in Jordan earlier in the day and said they wanted to resume peace talks.
"The meeting should be regarded as a positive event," Foreign Ministry's spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said.
"We hope that this contact will allow the Palestinians and Israelis to resume full-scale political dialogue," he added.
