MOSCOW, June 26 (RIA Novosti) - Dutchman Dick Advocaat signed a contract Monday to take over as head coach of Zenit St. Petersburg soccer club.

The announcement had been widely expected, but Advocaat's commitments with the South Korean national team at this summer's World Cup prevented an official announcement from being made sooner.

Advocaat will arrive in St. Petersburg July 3, and will take charge of his first game July 6, when Zenit faces Dinamo Moscow.

Detailed terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Advocaat is understood to have signed an 18-month contract with the option of a 1-year extension.

Advocaat, 59, has also coached the Dutch national team - which he took to the semifinals of 2004's European Championship - and has an impressive record in club football, where clubs he has coached include Glasgow Rangers and PSV Eindhoven.
