Russian prosecutors looking to shut down three teen magazines

MOSCOW, June 28 (RIA Novosti) - The Prosecutor General's Office said Tuesday it would seek the closure of three magazines aimed at teenagers over alleged violations of media legislation.

The prosecutor's office said that magazines Molotok, Cool and Cool Girl should be closed for publishing large amounts of erotic and advertising materials - content that had not been declared in their registration documents.

"The periodicals have not been registered as special erotic or advertising publications, but they contain advertisements and colored illustrations that exploit minors' interest in sex," Deputy Prosecutor General Sergei Fridinsky said in a report to Boris Boyarsky, head of a cultural watchdog.

The publisher and editors of Molotok have received several official warnings but taken no action, Fridinsky said in his statement to the Federal Service for the Oversight of Legislation in Mass Communications and the Protection of Cultural Heritage.

Fridinsky requested that Boyarsky file suits within a month to close down the publications.

Yekaterina Mil, deputy chief editor of Molotok, said she disagreed with the prosecutors.

"All allegations are unfair on all counts," she said, adding that the magazine had not yet received any documents on the issue.

Cool and Cool Girl editors were unavailable for comment.
