MOSCOW, June 30 (RIA Novosti)-Gazprom [RTS: GAZP] is seeking to establish itself as the world's leading oil and gas company, the Russian energy giant's chief executive said Friday.
"Our aim is leadership of the global oil and gas market," Alexei Miller told a shareholders' meeting.
He said that the struggle for control over energy resources had recently intensified and 2005 saw increased globalization on the natural gas market and rising prices for oil and gas.
"We can say for sure that the era of cheap fuel has ended," Miller said, adding that Gazprom planned its activities according to recent trends.
Gazprom is the world's third largest company with a market capitalization of $300 billion.
