MOSCOW REGION, July 1 (RIA Novosti) - President Vladimir Putin proposed Saturday abolishing taxes on state benefits paid for the birth of a second child in Russian families.
Putin's statement was made in the follow-up to his state of the nation address on May 10 when he elaborated on Russia's demographic crisis and urged the government to pay women at least 250,000 rubles ($9,225) in financial aid following the birth of a second child as a remedy to the situation.
"I find it necessary to amend the Tax Code to cancel taxation of state benefits for the birth of a second child in Russian families," the president said at a meeting with members of the Kremlin-friendly United Russia party faction in his country residence outside Moscow.
