GROZNY, July 2 (RIA Novosti) - Police have found two caches full of arms and ammunition in the troubled Republic of Chechnya in Russia's North Caucasus, the local interior ministry said Sunday.

Both caches were found in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, the ministry said.

Police found the first cache in the basement of a half-destroyed building in the Staropromyslovsky district of Grozny. The cache contained six kilograms of plastic explosives, three artillery shells, eight rounds for grenade launchers, two grenades, a grenade launcher, a Kalashnikov automatic rifle and 190 cartridges.

The police found the second cache in the Oktyabrsky district of the Chechen capital. The cache contained two Kalashnikov automatic rifles, two artillery shells, a mine and a round for a grenade launcher.

"The ammunition has been destroyed on the spot. Currently, an investigation has been launched to identify the owners of the arms caches," the ministry said.
