STRELNA, July 16 (RIA Novosti) - Leaders of the G8 urged all countries to support the International Atomic Energy Agency and observe agreements on the peaceful use of nuclear energy and the non-proliferation regime in a joint statement Sunday.

"We are committed to further reduce the risks associated with the safe use of nuclear energy. It must be based on a robust regime for assuring nuclear non-proliferation and a reliable safety and security system for nuclear materials and facilities," the leaders said in the final document of the St. Petersburg G8 summit.

They also emphasized "the responsibility of all nations to support the work of the IAEA," and said they would "continue to consider nuclear safety and security issues in the Nuclear Safety and Security Group (NSSG)."
