STRELNA (near St. Petersburg), July 16 (RIA Novosti) - A decision on the presence of an international mission in Lebanon should be made by the conflicting parties and sanctioned by the UN Security Council, a source in the Russian delegation at the G8 summit said Sunday.
"We will wait for recommendations of the UN secretary-general and his analysis on the need for the international community's participation in the resolution of this problem," the source said.
"This is a problem for the UN Security Council and it can only be decided there," the source said. "And whatever the form of the presence there - whether it be a monitoring [mission] or a peacekeeping [contingent] - it can only be [sent there] with the agreement of both parties."
