KIEV, July 25 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine's lawmakers voted Tuesday to cancel a decision of the previous parliament to fire the government of Yuriy Yekhanurov in January.

The Yekhanurov government was dismissed by the Supreme Rada on January 10 in controversial circumstances, following a bitter gas pricing dispute with Russia.

"If the fourth Supreme Rada has made a mistake, let us correct it," said Volodymyr Rybak of the pro-Russia Party of Regions.

The move was initiated by Rybak and Vladislav Lukyanenko of the Party of Regions leading the current parliamentary coalition, and Heorhiy Ponomarenko of the Communist Party.

Rybak said the decision had been annulled on the basis of President Viktor Yushchenko's resolution of January 12, which said the dismissal was in breach of the Constitution.

Roman Bezsmertniy of the pro-presidential Our Ukraine bloc said the parliament's decision Tuesday was "an absurdity that cannot change anything."

The leader of the West-leaning eponymous Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc criticized the Yekhanurov government in January for concluding the gas deal with Russia that failed to meet national interests.

Yekhanurov, leader of the pro-presidential Our Ukraine party, responded that the cabinet would not obey to the illegal decision of the parliamentarians and refused to resign.

President Yushchenko demanded that parliament withdraw the decision on January 12. The Justice Ministry then drafted recommendations for the president to go to the Constitutional Court but the court was never set up because the parliament had failed to appoint its judges.
