KIEV, August 4 (RIA Novosti) - Viktor Yanukovych was approved Friday by the Ukrainian parliament for the post of prime minister.
Two hundred and seventy-one deputies voted in favor of the leader of the pro-Russian Party of Regions. Yanukovych needed 226 votes to secure his appointment.
Yanukovych had previously served as prime minister under President Leonid Kuchma.
His nomination was approved Thursday by President Viktor Yushchenko after a four-month political standoff.
