On August 11, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1701 calling for immediate ceasefire in Lebanon starting with 5 a.m. GMT on August 14.
"At given stage, the priority is to calmly and gradually deploy the Lebanese army in southern Lebanon in cooperation with UN forces and pull out Israeli troops," said spokesman Mikhail Kamynin.
"We expect all sides to comply with Resolution 1701 and prevent any actions that could undermine the fragile ceasefire," he said.
Kamynin said the resolution was an important step toward resolving the Lebanese-Israeli conflict after more than a month of fighting between Lebanon-based Hizbollah radical Islamic movement and Israel.
"Unfortunately, the bloodshed did not stop immediately, and the sides continued to exchange strikes on August 12-13," Kamynin said.
The spokesman said the conflict reached a peak point on August 13, which resulted in new losses on both sides, but added that the ceasefire agreement seemed to have been implemented on the whole.
