NAZRAN, August 16 (RIA Novosti) - One soldier has been killed and another seriously wounded after a vehicle carrying military couriers came under fire in southern Russia, an Interior Ministry spokesman said Wednesday.
The attack in Ingushetia's largest city, Nazran, is the latest to rock the North Caucasus after two major assassination attempts in Daghestan last week. One city prosecutor died in a car bombing, but the republic's interior minister survived an attack on his car.
"Unknown assailants in a VAZ-21099 car opened fire on a UAZ minibus carrying three couriers from a military unit deployed in Vladikavkaz," spokesman Nazir Yevloyev said.
Yevloyev said the perpetrators had escaped and were thought to be heading for the border with North Ossetia.
