Ivan Melnikov, who is also a member of the lower house of the Russian parliament, the State Duma, said there were two "fronts" of action in parliament.
"The first is our party's active participation in 10 regional election campaigns," he said, adding that on October 8, elections for legislative assemblies are to be held in nine Russian regions, and then in December, in the Perm Territory.
"We expect to do as well as we did during the spring election campaign, broadening our support base in a number of regions," he said.
He said the party's second "front" would be legislative activity in the State Duma, focusing on amendments to the electoral law and the 2007 budget.
He also said the Communists would continue street protest action in the fall.
"Protest action and parliamentary work are the party's two fundamental political lines. As for the first one, we have already planned three large-scale protest actions this coming fall," Melnikov said.
