- Tatyana Chernova won gold in the heptathlon with 6,227points. Her teammate Yana Panteleyeva took bronze with 5,979 points and Ida Marcussen (Norway) took silver with 6,020 points.
- Yevgeny Aydamirov won gold in the men's hammer throw with 78.42 meters.

* Russia's national water polo junior women's team won the title at the European championships in Kirishi (Russia), beating the Netherlands 13-7 in the final. Hungary won bronze, beating Italy 12-11 in the third place match
