TBILISI, August 22 (RIA Novosti) - French instructors will be on the teaching staff of a Georgian military college training mountain warfare specialists, the Georgian Defense Ministry said Tuesday.
The school, formed with the help of experts from the French Defense Ministry, was opened today in the west of the South Caucasus republic. President Mikheil Saakashvili attended the opening ceremony.
"Georgia and France are closely cooperating in military medicine and mountain warfare training," the Georgian ministry said.
A French military delegation is currently on a two-day visit to Georgia. It will meet Wednesday with Georgian peacekeepers in the zone of Georgia's conflict with the self-proclaimed republic of South Ossetia, one of two breakaway regions that have refused to recognize Tbilisi's authority since the early 1990s.
