MOSCOW, September 4 (RIA Novosti) - All 15 hostages taken by three inmates in a Moscow pre-trial detention center have been freed after special forces stormed the building, a spokesman for the Federal Penitentiary Service said Monday.
"The hostages were released 15 minutes ago. There were fifteen of them," the spokesman said. "No one was killed or injured."
A law enforcement officer earlier said three inmates who took hostages have been detained.
Criminal proceedings have been launched, the first deputy Moscow prosecutor said.
A top Federal Penitentiary Service official said the hostage release operation lasted for 15 seconds, but that it took about three hours to prepare.
