Soldiers have entered Government House in Bangkok, and tanks have surrounded the building. Thailand's prime minister, Thaksin Shinawatra, has declared a state of emergency in the capital.
The southeast Asian country's premier, currently attending a session of the UN General Assembly, is expected to address the assembly on the issue in the next few hours.
