NOVOSIBIRSK, September 20 (RIA Novosti) - A major fire that broke out at an oil refinery in Siberia early Wednesday, injuring one worker, is not an environmental threat, the local emergencies department said Wednesday.
There was no oil spill after the fire at the refinery in the city of Omsk in West Siberia. The blaze was reported at about 1:00 a.m. Moscow time (9 p.m. GMT), and emergency workers managed to contain it by 3:00 a.m.
"A gas distillation unit, the epicenter of the fire, is being cooled at the moment," an emergencies official said.
A preliminary version of the cause was that a loss of pressure triggered the fire in the unit, which was being overhauled, the official said.
A refinery worker was hospitalized with burns.
