MOSCOW, September 24 (RIA Novosti) - Two South Ossetian policemen were wounded in a shootout between South Ossetian police and Georgian police Saturday, the Joint Peacekeeping Force said Sunday.

Georgia's conflicts with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, both of which proclaimed their independence following the collapse of the Soviet Union, have stirred much controversy between it and Russia.

The Georgian leadership has repeatedly accused Russian peacekeepers deployed in the regions of siding with local separatists, and Georgia's parliament has passed resolutions demanding their immediate withdrawal.
