MOSCOW, September 28 (RIA Novosti) - AFK Sistema [RTS: AFKS] said Thursday it had signed a protocol of intentions on buying a stake in the Zvezda television channel with the Defense Ministry.
Alexander Goncharuk, Sistema president, said the corporation was interested in buying a stake that would allow it to help manage the television channel. The Defense Ministry holds a 51% stake.
He said the stake and its price would be discussed later.
Volgatelecom, Sibirtelecom and Dalsvyaz, subsidiaries of state telecoms giant Svyazinvest, each hold 5% stakes in the channel.
AFK Sistema was founded in 1993. It includes companies operating in such areas as telecommunications, technology, insurance, real estate, banking, retail trade and media.
