The A-310 airliner operated by airline S7 (formerly Siberian Airlines) smashed into concrete garages and exploded after slewing off the runway upon landing at the airport of Irkutsk, 2,600 miles east of Moscow. Of the 203 people on board, 124 were killed and 70 others injured. Investigators have said an engine malfunction may be to blame.
Konstantin Slastin, who lost his wife and a daughter in the accident, is suing S7 for 20 million rubles ($747,000) in damages along with his surviving daughter, Lyubov.
Their lawyer, Igor Trunov, said: "We adjusted the damages claim during preliminary hearings today; we are now demanding a compensation of 18 million rubles ($672,000) in moral damages and another 2 million rubles ($74,700) in material damages."
Originally, the claim was just over 7 million rubles ($262,000).
Igor Volkov, S7 deputy press officer, said the carrier was ready to pay moral and material damages to the plaintiffs and other people affected by the crash in accordance with Russia's laws.
The plaintiffs will meet with S7 officials for talks Tuesday, ahead of court hearings on their claim October 17, Trunov said.
