MOSCOW, October 2 (RIA Novosti) - A criminal investigation has been launched against an unidentified man caught on camera assaulting a protestor Friday outside the Georgian Embassy in Moscow, prosecutors said Monday.
Russian television screened footage of the man leaving the Embassy and aiming a kick to the buttocks of the protestor, who was being restrained by police, before running back into the building.
The General Prosecutors' Office said in a statement on its Web site, "On September 29, 2006, at around 15:00 [11:00 a.m. GMT], during a picket by representatives of the Eurasian Youth Union outside the Georgian Embassy, a man leaving the embassy assaulted a protestor."
Some of the protestors were believed to have been from the youth wing of the ultranationalist Liberal Democratic Party of Russia. A pig's head was also reportedly launched into the embassy building, breaking a window.
