Last week, the country's state-owned energy company Naftogaz announced that as of 2007 Ukraine would no longer buy Russian gas, opting instead for cheaper Central Asian gas, supplied via Russia by an intermediary.
"The issue of prices for Russian natural gas to Ukraine has been resolved. We can put a full-stop on the talks." Oleksandr Moroz said after his meeting with Sergei Mironov, the speaker of the Russian parliament's upper house.
Ukraine currently buys a mixture of Russian and cheaper Turkmen gas at $95 per 1,000 cubic meters from trading company RosUkrEnergo, which is 50% owned by Russian energy giant Gazprom.
The issue of gas deliveries became a key bilateral sticking point this year, following a price row in January, during which Gazprom briefly cut off supplies to Ukraine.
Moroz said, "the final answer on the question of Russian gas for Ukraine" would be given at a meeting of the Russian and Ukrainian prime ministers in Kiev, scheduled for late October.
The Ukrainian speaker said he had discussed with Mironov the establishment of a Russia- Ukraine inter-parliamentary commission, which could hold its first session in November of this year.
