ST. PETERSBURG, October 17 (RIA Novosti) - Fuel oil has spilled over an area of 200 square meters on the shoreline of the Kola Bay in the Murmansk Region in Russia's arctic northeast, the Emergency Situations Ministry said Tuesday.
The ministry said a pipe section, 300 mm in diameter, ruptured on October 12 some 500 meters from the bay. More than 20 people are involved in the cleanup operation.
"Petroleum derivatives have not penetrated into the water diversion system, and there's no threat for the population. Work on cleaning up the shoreline is ongoing," the ministry said.
