KRASNOYARSK, October 19 (RIA Novosti) - A Tu-154 jet owned by KrasAir and bound from Yakutsk, in East Siberia, to Krasnoyarsk, in South Siberia, made an emergency landing at the Yakutsk airport early Thursday.

"During takeoff, the aircraft failed to retract its flaps. Acting strictly in line with instructions, the crew decided to abort the flight to Krasnoyarsk and make an emergency landing in Yakutsk. After burning off fuel, the plane, with 110 passengers and nine crew members on board, landed successfully," airport controllers told RIA Novosti.

The Tu-154, a mainstay of Russia's air fleet, has been involved in several recent incidents, the most serious being the crash of a Tu-154 owned by St. Petersburg-based Pulkovo Airlines in Ukraine in August, which killed 170.

In September, Pulkovo Airlines said it would completely replace the Tu-154 within three years, although it maintained the decision was not in response to the accident.
