MOSCOW, October 27 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow police confiscated more than 2.6 kilograms of heroin during the arrest of two citizens of Tajikistan, suspected of drug-trafficking, a police source said Friday.
"The Tajiks were arrested in a rented apartment at 48 Otkrytoye Shosse," the source said. "Police discovered 2.698 kg of heroin in the flat."
A criminal investigation into the case has been launched, and police aim to uncover the network through which the heroin was supplied.
The narcotics trade has become an acute problem for the impoverished Central Asian republic of Tajikistan, due to a continual flow of illegal drugs from neighboring Afghanistan, the world's largest supplier of heroin and opium.
