Last week, leading business daily Kommersant reported that His Majesty Juan Carlos, who is known to be a keen hunter, killed with a single shot a tame bear by the name of Mitrofan who had been fed vodka-soaked honey before being let out of a cage.
"All rumors and speculations about Spanish King Juan Carlos' alleged hunting in the Vologda Region are ungrounded and untrue," Governor Vyacheslav Pozgalyov said.
Pozgalyov added that His Majesty Juan Carlos did not fire a single shot during his visit to the region.
Russian hunting organizers are very familiar with such hunting tactics. Former Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev, who was also fond of hunting, had trouble aiming straight as he grew older. Some of the animals he killed on his hunting trips were either tied to trees or plied with alcohol.
