Bill Gates, who is taking part in a seminar on innovative information technology in Moscow, said access to the Internet means literacy, and that while Russia is a highly educated country, literacy also includes computer literacy.
He said the Russian government can avoid the mistakes that other countries made in the IT sphere, adding it is critical to introduce low-cost, high-speed, broadband Internet services.
Gates said the Internet should be accessible throughout the country.
He said Microsoft Corp. will do all it can to ensure that Russian schoolchildren have the most advanced software available to them.
He said that over the past two years, the Russian government has done much to protect intellectual property rights, which encourages the development of software companies.
