DOMODEDOVO (near Moscow), November 11 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Interior Ministry has technologies to protect air transport from terrorist attacks, the head of the agency said Saturday.
Speaking to the media during a break in a session of CIS interior ministers on aviation security, Rashid Nurgaliyev said, "Technologies we are presenting to our counterparts make it possible to carry out efficient operations to uncover and prevent possible crimes on air transport."
Russian police and security forces work together to protect the nation's air transport infrastructure against terrorism. This year alone, they "have solved 554 crimes directly or indirectly related to ensuring [aviation] security, and seized 169 pieces of firearms and about a thousand pieces of steel arms," the minister said.
