HANOI, November 18 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and Japan have agreed to start dialogue on matters of strategic stability, the Russian foreign minister said Saturday.
Sergei Lavrov is attending a two-day summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, which has opened in Hanoi.
"I am pleased to say that as part of our efforts to bring Russian-Japanese relations to a qualitatively new level, agreement has been reached to open strategic dialogue at the level of first deputy foreign ministers," Sergei Lavrov said after a meeting with his Japanese counterpart, Taro Aso.
He said the dialogue will cover nuclear nonproliferation and the fight against international terror, organized crime, and drug trafficking, as well as arms control.
