SOCHI, November 28 (RIA Novosti) - Law enforcement officers prevented an attempt to sell four portable surface-to-air missile systems in a Black Sea resort of Sochi, a local police source said Tuesday.
"Police arrested five members of a criminal group that tried to sell four Strela-2M (SA-7 Grail) shoulder-fired surface-to-air missile systems," the source said. "All weapons have been seized."
Strela-2M is a short-range missile system similar to the U.S. FIM-43 Redeye missile complex. It features a powerful warhead and an infrared homing device. Its effectiveness depends on its ability to lock onto the heat source of low-flying fixed and rotary-wing aircraft.
